where can you buy affordable kids bunk beds? affordable yet durable kids bunk beds.

milo85510 replied: "You can try IKEA. I bought a bunk bed like 6 years ago for my nieces and it's in pretty good shape. Good luck finding one!"

haswashere replied: "marlo thats where my parents got mines and my bros. They are metal have a slide and feel really comfortable. I think they were only $250"

Old Fool replied: "I just bought a metal tubing bunk-bed for my grand children at IKEA. I chose this one because they are boys and I know they will think it is a jungle gym in a few years. I picked it out by walking around and shaking all the bunk-beds. This one would not shake. I is a dull gray, very spartan. If you like, you could paint it any color with rustolium, for a more aesthetic appearance. Price w/o mattress $150"

What age is the most appropriate age to put kids in bunk beds? I have 2 boys (4 and 5 yrs old) that I would like to get bunk beds for, but I am unsure if it would be ok.

twinkybutt replied: "sure!"

Ashley P replied: "I think I was 4 and my brother was 5 when my parents got us a bunkbed."

kelsey replied: "As long as they're not going to roll out of it, or jump off it, or do anything dangerous on it to injure themselves, it should be fine"

Cute butterfly99 replied: "I would put them in a bunk bed around 6 or 7 .but as long as you know the one on the top part won't fall out it should be fine :] good luck!"

steppy replied: "around the age of 4 for the bottom bunk and a little older for the top bunk. I used to have them when I was a kid. I was older so I got the top until my brother was old enough and we knew he wouldn't wiggle off the bed. And that he could climb on the ladder well."

Zoo York replied: "Its okay they wont get super hurt like off the building hurt theyre kids they like to have fun"

kuelker5@sbcglobal.net replied: "My 4 and 3 year old sons have had bunk beds for almost 2 years. They do really good with it and on occasion have been known to turn the bottom bunk into a secret fort. Just make sure that the bunk bed you get has a good safety rail on top and they should be fine."

Kat replied: "usually bunkbed manufactures recommend that the top bunk not be used by a child under 6... but i have seen many many kids use them before 6. My 4 and 7 yr old are currently in bunk beds.. so I think it should be fine for you"

Cindy F replied: "I would wait until they are a little older. kids have a tendency to roll off the bed. Or you can buy the bunk bed and make it twin beds until they are older."

freak replied: "yeah ask them and make sure it is properly assembled"

VIK8423 replied: "When they don't pee in their beds. I would feel very sorry for the person on the bottom if it was not the case."

michelle replied: "My boys have a set of bunk beds. My 8 yr old is on top, the 6 yr old on bottom. We've set a tentative age at 8 for the older, just because he wants to know how old he has to be before he can sleep on top. However, we feel that we will know best when he is ready (i.e. does roll out of bed....it's uncommon of him to do it, but still happens often enough for concern). My largest concern would be them jumping off of the top which my youngest wanted to do at first. He knows better now though. I know I'm probably over cautious, but my Mom's friend's son fell off of the top bunk (years ago) hit his head, and died. You just can't be too careful, you know?"

Just me replied: "We have bunk beds for our girls that separate into 2 separate beds (how they are now) and intructions/recommendation it has is 6 y/o for the top bunk. I think it really depends on your child though, if you think they are ready. My kids are 6 and 3 and the 6 y/o does not want to be that high up yet. However next year we are moving and they will have to share a room and use them as bunk beds, so she'll have to then."

Lee A replied: "I think the 5 year old would be ok on the top bunk, but be sure that there is a rail, just in case. You can also buy bunk beds with stairs instead of ladders, which is much safer."

opinions on twin beds, bunk beds and loft beds. What do your kids like? I cannot decide if I should get my kids bunk beds, regular twin beds or loft beds. I have one boy and one girl (they have their own room) so they don't really need bunk beds but a few friends have suggested bunk beds for extra room for sleepovers. I like loft beds b/c my kids rooms are small and they leave extra space underneath for a bookshelf a desk or just for playing. At what age will they "outgrow" or not want bunk beds or loft beds and prefer a regular "grown up" bed. If your child has a loft bed-do they like it? any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Havanah_A replied: "you could buy a bunk bed, this can be used as two twin beds or a bunk bed."

Maggie replied: "I wanted a loft/bunk bed, but now I know it's better not to have one. Regular beds are better for lounging. During sleepovers, we all sleep on the floor. I had a loft bed until I got to middle school and wanted a normal one. Also, being high up at night is hard to grow out of. It depends on your kids age."

Mommy to Be replied: "I dont know what loft bed is, but buy the twin bed with another bed that slides underneath. It comes with it. You know ur house, u decide. If you go with bunk, no metal, breaks easy, paralel on top of other so kids cant jump from top bunk down. Flat stairs, not round and smaller mattress on top, or burier so kid cant fall out. Mom just bought set for grandkids. ASHLEY FURNITURE is a must. Good Luck"

steph1 replied: "My Daughter madison has a loft bed with a slide on it, she loves and it has lots of storage underneath where she plays most of the time. A loft bed will probaby be good for a long time."

texas hearts replied: "I'm 19. I had a day bed when I was young, one with the mattress that pulled out and it was great for friends. Then when we moved I had my brothers old bunk beds from about 6 until my freshman year in HS when it was finally too old. I really liked that too, most of the time I kept the lower bed as a couch with extra pillows and study space, then when friends came over it was slept on. Or i rotated and used my upper bed for storage, stacked stuff up there and took it off when friends came over. In college we have lofted beds with our desks underneath. It's ok if you can have proper lighting under the bed, but if not it sucks. My roomate and I were'nt desk people so we would have preferred to be able to study on our beds rather than the floor. As far as storage with them went, the storage that came on it was restrictive and it was hard for us to fit storage to the space. In college I didn't like having to climb to get to my bed, I just wanted to be able to lay down and sleep or use my bed as a couch and lounge and watch tv. If your kids have lots of friends over, depending on the age, lofted beds suck because you can't use them as seating, or to watch movies from. My vote would be go for a day bed/trudle bed or bunk bed. They're the most versatile."

gots2swim replied: "I think that you should do a loft, instead of buk beds, because kids ussualy out grow bunk beds at about 13 years old, another idea is a trundle, thats what we have, and it works great, and the kids dont have to make the trundle, just roll it under! good luck"

~Biz~ replied: "As a child, I disliked my bunk beds after about 10 because I thought they were too childish. But both my daughter and my adult sister have loft beds in their places. My sister bought it as a teenager and took it with her - it's great for extra room. My daughter has a small room, so the loft was a necessity. I bought a plain natural wood colored bed, so it won't ever look childish. She loves it, I'm not sure that she'll ever outgrow liking it."

would you recommend bunk beds for kids? My husband and I are expecting a baby girl in September--since we have 2 boys already and only 3 bedrooms-the two boys will move into a room together and our daughter will have her own room. My sons are 3 and 2--are they too young for bunk beds?

Lisa replied: "Bunk beds scare me. My daughter is 6 and i think she'd have to be much older before i would consider letting her use one."

Darcy replied: "I've never let any of my kids sleep on the top bunk until they are around 5 years old. Yes, I think 3 and 2 is too young. What about a trundle bed?"

[R.W] replied: "Two is a bit too young, maybe invest in some in 2 or three years time? Good luck with the new baby! x"

Ashley D replied: "My sister and I had bunk beds when I was a little girl, but we were substantially older when we got them... I would be afraid that a bunk bed is a little too tall for a 3 year old... Have you considered a trundle bed? They are low to the ground, and no one would get hurt if they fell out... Also, the lower bed slides under the higher one to give you more room to play!"

I'm A Keeper replied: "my sister and i had bunk beds when we were Younger and even with the rail on top i fell out ALL the time... wouldn't recommend it for such a young age"

holidae, got BFP! replied: "I think that is too young for a bunk bed. My brother's always used bunk beds but they scare me because I've heard of kids falling out of them and getting badly hurt. I did watch a 5 year old that slept on the top bunk and he did good with it but if your kids roll all over the place while sleeping it is not a good idea. What about a trundle bed?"

bernie0805 replied: "Don't they make smaller ones for toddlers? I'd be a little hesitant with them being so young."

Your Highness replied: "My brothers had two toddler beds near that age. I think when they were 4 and 2 they got bunk beds though, the older one had the top bunk and there were thick rails up there so he couldn't fall off"

ProudMamaOfALittleBoy replied: "I think they will be fine, as long as they know how to get in and out of the bed. I would recomend putting the 3 year old ontop and 2 year old on bottom. Also, have you though of a trundal bed? That might be a better idea. hope all goes well!"

JOOLS replied: "Our little girl was using a cabin bed from 2 and a half without any problems at all. Good space saver, and not as high as bunks!"

Cubanprincess replied: "its a good idea but ages 3 and 2 are a little young for bunk beds"

♪ ♥ ♪ ♥ ♪ Simply me ♥ ♪ ♥ ♪ ♥ replied: "DEFINETLY don't do it, that is an accident waiting to happen. The 3 yr old could possibly handle being on the bottom bed, but having the 3 yr old on top and the 2 yr old on the bottom is not a good idea to say the least. I would say it was safe when the 3 yr old turns 5 and the 2 yr old turns 4...a couple more yrs. OH...just thought of this, they have beds that have another bed that pulls out from under. It's like they sleep side by side, 1 being a little higher than the other. Not sure what they're called but could possibly work really well in your situation."

ozzieblackcat replied: "I think bunk beds are always hazardous for kids. I had two boys sleeping in them and the oldest boy was about 12 when he fell from the top bunk in his sleep. It even had a guard rail which he managed to flip over. He was hurt pretty badly in the face and broken nose, lots of swelling. I would never use bunk beds again."

kate replied: "sorry i think that 2 and 3 is too young i would wait till they are about five year old i hope this helps :) :D"

tweetyboopbratz replied: "Well it depends on how old they are. if 2-3 no. 3-4 no.5-6 maybe.7-8 and so on definetly. Make sure the beds have bars that keeps them from falling off the bed and make sure the bolts are screwed in tightly. Also check the bolts every month to keep them tight. Make sure the kids don't play on or around the bed. Hope this helps because my kids have bunk beds i just want to let you know all the tips to keep them in tip top shape."

Jamie replied: "I wouldn't put kids that young on bunk beds. I got bunk beds when I was 4...and was in the ER at least once a month for two years (not kidding!). I had more stiches during those two years than in the 20 years since then...consider trundle beds instead. Their just like mini bunk beds, and can be just as space-saving."

eter81999 replied: "yes i think you should give them bunk beds when their about 5 or 4 years old you can buy a 4 bedroom but that will cost a lot.but what you should do is put one bed on one side and another on the other and put baby fences around the bed"

Laura N replied: "Bunk beds could come in really handy later on, so here is what I would suggest. Go ahead and buy a nice sturdy, wooden set (the kind that will hold up to years of kids), but make sure that it has a removeable ladder and a trundle section underneath. My four year old has a set that we've taken the ladder off of until he is older, and he does just fine on the bottom bunk. The three year old can sleep on the bottom bunk, and the two year old can have the trundle, since it is right on the level of the floor, and he can't hurt himself by falling. That way, you'll have it set up when they grow into it in a few years, and they will have the trundle for when they have friends over to spend the night later. Congratulations!"

skeleton tea replied: "They're just too young right now. I would wait until the oldest is 5, and have him sleep on the top. If you do get a bunk bed, make sure it has raised bars on the sides. I once rolled off of my bunk bed while sleeping when I was ten, and split my head open on the wrist watch I was wearing when I hit the ground. I was knocked unconscious, and was awoken by my mother in a pool of blood. It required stitches. A roll bar is a must have."

How to make a bed canopy for my kids bunk bed? How to make a bed canopy for my kids bunk bed? I want to make a canopy for my daughters bunk bed to give her a more cozy feel up on the top bunk. How can I make it ... step by step? I know you need a hook and a hoop and fabric but how do you put it together? Or are there any othe techniques? Or anywhere to buy cheap??

jenni s replied: "I worked on a room for a 14 yr old teenager a few years back, and she wanted a canopy type over her bed. What I did was go to the fabric store, and picked out a sheer, light fabric that matched the color scheme. I then found little color coordinating plastic rings (whole circles) and after hemming the edges on a serger, I hand attached the rings. I then went to home depot and found very small hooks, attached these at the appropriate place on the ceiling and then hung the fabric. Making sure the appropriate look was accomplished and the swagging was even. I made sure to have one piece 6 yards attached in the corner behind the bed, and pulled one piece to the front corner of the bed on the left and then the other corners on the right--made a beautiful swag defining the length of the bed--then used 12 yards from end to end so that there would be plenty of hand over on the head and foot of the bed. Her bed was situated caddy corner. We then used several shiny, silk, with various pattern pillows on the bed, and I made a new comforter with the same color schemes. Her room was gorgeous, and resembled something you would see in India...all those rich gorgeous hues. Good luck--just remember that a good quality fabric lasts better than a cheap one, and alot easier to work with."

Which is more comfortable futon or mattress bunk beds? We our buying our kids bunk beds. The bottom one converts into a couch position. Because of this it is obviously not a regualar mattress, it's an imitation mattress, so it has coil like things inside but it is actually a futon. It feels comfortable on the display, but will it be over time??? Or does the folding mechanims have problems over time???

goododie4 replied: "You can buy a seperate "real" spring mattress / futon. A bit pricey compared to what you may be getting - but will last for quite awhile. Generally its a comfort thing for your kid"

lil_wiggy270 replied: "futons are very uncomfortable!! The mattress wears out fairly quick and you will feel every rail when you lay on it."

vent a replied: "Futons are the cotton or foam mattresses that are flexible and which can be folded easily. You can use them either as mattresses or as couches. They originated in Asia but have gained popularity around the world. Depending on whether you want to use the futon as a couch, a bed or both, there are wide varieties of styles available in the market. These mattresses come in different sizes. A futon can last anywhere from 2 to 10 years as per their quality."

Bunked Beds ONLY for little kids? Or can it be for any age? Im 17 and I've had a bunked beds that were separated. Suddenly I just felt like turning it back to a bunked bed. I told my friend and he said "only little kids have bunked bed!" I don't want to be seen as a little kid towards my friend so I was wondering if me, being 17, if it was appropriate to have a bunked bed? THANKS!

bajaricky replied: "hey they use them in the military and prison system go for it"

haiiiiiiils replied: "bunkbeds are amazing."

aleya_leberman replied: "no i think thay are for teens two just not for old people"

ed c replied: "bunk beds r awsome they save a ton of room plus a ton of collager do it a well"

Nathan H replied: "I had a bunk bed with my twin brother but we got it seprated and i miss it but i grew out of it, i'm afraid its part of growing up"

Shopaholic Chick replied: "it can give you a lot more space i your room if you have a small room - and more space for a desk and other essentials - a lot of college dorms have bunk beds so if your friend plans to go to college - he better learn to love them!"

Mary Anne S replied: "sorry, bunkbeds are a little young. maybe you could do a unique twist on bunkbeds, like take out the bottom but stilt the top to give a lounge area underneath. i don't know, but ive seen that in college dorms."

siX Year plaN replied: "It can come across as a little juvenile, but it depends. Are you sharing your room with some one who is 14, or 24? If youre living with a younger sibling I don't think its a big deal at all. Maybe you're in a dorm room where there isn't much room or maybe you don't share a room with anyone and you just like a little exersize before bed. If its something you really want, then just do it, it isn't like its a permanent decision. I say go for it! Even if your friends tease you a little, they'll get over it eventually."

daddyderrell replied: "you know what? it is what you want and are comfortable with. don't go through life worrying about what everyone else thinks"

does your kids have a bunk bed?Are bunk beds safe? We just got my son a bunk bed and my mom is freaking out - she says a lot of kids die from falling off, should I be worried? He is nine. We also have a three year old and a two year old and a one year old but they have a different room(s).

just me replied: "i wouldn't worry about a 9 year old. at least i wouldn't worry about my 9 year old. if you have a little dare devil then you might be concerned that he might try jumping off or something like that and maybe breaking an arm or something. when we had our bunk beds up my 3 year old figured out how to climb to the top without the ladder, so i was a little worried about that and we took them down."

santobugito replied: "I've found that bunk beds have a rail on the top. I have them for my kids, and I have for a few years. They were 6 and 3 when I got them the bed. I haven't had one issue. The only thing I can suggest for added safety is if the ladder is all metal, get some foam to go around the bars of the ladder and glue them on. The metal can be slippery, and hurt their feet. At 9 he should be more than fine. I had a set of bunk beds with my sister when I was younger. They were the wooden kind that came apart to make 2 single beds. Those I wouldn't recommend. It's nothing but a small dowel holding them together, with a little jumping on the top, or kicking the top one from the bottom, they can snap that dowel and come apart. lol My sis and I figured this out."

Mommy to #8-Lucille Maria replied: "I'm sorry, but I agree with your mother. Maybe he could use the top bunk for playing, but I wouldn't let him sleep up there because when you aren't conscious you might roll around or something. Age has nothing to do with it."
