Could someone please share with me a sewing pattern to make baby alive wet n wiggles cloth diapers? My six year old daughter just got one for her BDay, thank god it's only water she drinks, but I am really put off by the criminal waste of disposable diapers this doll requires. The manufacturer is definitely not environmentally friendly and I do hate toys that bleed us parents like that. I would like to get her some washable cloth ones, but I am not living in the USA at the moment and would like to know if anyone has a pattern I could use to make them myself. Thanks everyone and Happy 2008

Are Newborn (N) diapers and Size 1 diapers different? So my grandma is throwing me a shower and she's also making me a diaper cake. For the diaper cake she bought a giant box of Size1-2 diapers. Now do I still need to buy a package of newborn diapers because they are different? Or are they the same thing? THANK YOU LADIES! I'm an 18 year old mommy to be and although I'd like to believe im ready, i'm still unexperienced when it comes to many things. I'm really praying those maternal instincts kick in when my baby boy arrives. TY so much!

Noah's Mommy & Marine Wife. replied: "Yes, they are. The weights on them are a bit different. You may want to buy ONE package of newborn size to start out with and then go from there."

tannadunlap replied: "yes! check the pound weight on the side size one diapers are for like the end of the babys first month or second month you dont used them as soon as you and the baby come home he/she will wear newborn diapers for quite some time"

Sweet kitten replied: "i think they are the same thing. all the best..."

KiKi replied: "You should still get a pack of Newborn diapers. My son was in Newborn for about 2 months. He weighed 6lbs 2oz at birth. The size 1 diapers on a newborn depending on the size of the baby is way too big at first. The size 1's came up to my baby's chest when he was first born. He didn't start wearing size 2's until he was about 4 months old."

Alishia replied: "yeah newborn are a smaller size then 1's. and i actually think the 1-2 are bigger then normal 1's. most babies start out in newborn."

Sara replied: "That's so sweet of your grandma! Newborn diapers are smaller than size 1. My baby started wearing size 1 when she was about 1.5 months old. She's now 4 months old and wears a size 2. So, yes, you will still need to get Newborn size diapers:-)"

Samantha replied: "N diapers are like for under 8lbs and size 1 is 8lbs to like 12lbs"

A's Momma replied: "Yes, there's a difference. My daughter was in P-S (Preemie) diapers for a while and then she was in Newborn for a few weeks and then Size 1 for a while and now she's in Size 2. It all depends on the weight and shape of your baby. Sometimes, if your baby is long, the right weight size doesn't quite work. I suggest getting both Newborn and 1 and if one doesn't seem to fit right, you've got another size to try. :)"

Jasmine Moon replied: "Yes they are different in size. We used newborn about 3 weeks before using our box of 1-2 diapers. Also we liked the newborn ones because they have the cord cutout on them to let air get to the belly button and heal.. we switched after his fell off and phased the newborn out."

kara c replied: "Yeah the newborn diapers are a little smaller than the 1's. We had to use the N for a month before switching to 1's."

Callypso replied: "There's a big difference between newborn and 1-2 size diapers. My daughter can fit in 1-2s at 3 months (they go up over her belly button), but newborns (we have cheap ones we use on her from out of the tub til lotion time) we can barely get closed, and don't fit all. Her little butt crack hangs out hehe."

momof4 replied: "Not all brands of diapers have a newborn size...most babies will start on newborn size but probably wont be on them for long. It really depends on how big your baby is when they are born. They may not last long on size 1 either because my two month old was only 6lbs at birth but she is already in a size 2 diaper. The best thing for you to do with the diapers you buy and are given is NOT to open them before you get ready to use them. That way you can take them and exchange them at Walmart if they grow out of them before you get to use them....good luck and congrats!"

Acelin Gwen's Mommy replied: "YES! get N size!!!! i wish i had more! my baby is 3 months and over 10 lbs, the 1 size is TOO big for her still. *add i use pampers"

dmwp replied: "Newborn diapers go up to10 lbs and size 1's begin at 8lbs. Whether or not you will need newborns depends on the size of your baby. My oldest son never wore newborns. He was 8lbs and chunky. My 6 week old son still wears newborns, but he was 6lb 10 oz and skinny. You should buy a couple packages of newborns, but no more than that until you see how big your baby is"

Jasmine replied: "yes there is a little difference newborn diaper fit up to 10 pounds and size 1 is for 8-14 pounds"

G. ~*Due 8/5/09*~ replied: "Lol, that's not a bad question. Buy just a pack of the newborn diapers. See where it goes from there. My sister got a bunch of diapers from her baby shower, including a bunch of newborns. She had so many that she only used a pack or so. She gave me two packs that she had left. My baby boy is due in August, so its not like there old or anything. I would hold off on the buying until after your shower. Then make a list of whatever you didn't get and if you have gift cards, buy with that first, then start using your own money to buy the rest."

Jessica replied: "yes they are differnt but they are very close but it depends on how big your baby is."

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ liz~ replied: "yes there actually is quite a bit of a difference between newborn and 1-2 and even between newborn and size 1. my 3 1/2 month old wears size 1-2. and even if there wasnt a difference you will need lots of diapers of all sizes."

Busy Mommy of 2 (Expecting #3-♂) replied: "Newborn diapers are smaller than size 1 by a little bit and some brands have the belly button notch cut out of the waist band on the newborn diapers. My babies were 6 lbs 13 oz and 8 lbs 14 oz and both wore (P) Preemie diapers to start out with. My first child wore them for nearly a month and my second wore them for a week or two. The moved into size N where they stayed for a few week and then size 1 for a few months. It seemed as though my kids stayed in size 2 diapers the longest. My 3 year old never moved past size 3, she started wearing pull-ups around age 2. My 20 month old just started wearing size 3 and most likely will wear size 3 until she is potty trained. All diapers seem to differ in size a bit. I have noticed that huggies are a bit smaller than most brands and Pampers seem to fit a bit bigger. I use Luvs and Parent's Choice as I have never had a bad experience with them leak wise and they are very soft. Not to mention almost 1/2 price compared to Huggies and Pampers! I wish you the best of luck!"

Should i just cut off diapers cold turkey during the day n let my daughter go in pantys? My daughter goes when I put her on the potty but doesnt tell me when she has to go..what should i do?

jna1229 replied: "good luck i tried that with my daughter but all she did was pee everywhere. she just used pull ups like a diaper too. my daughter didnt actually get potty trained til she was 3 and in preschool and then she started seeing other kids going potty and she started going to."

wanda replied: "With my daughter, I waited until it was warm enough for her to play outside naked. Then I stripped her down and let her run. We took the potty outside and let her sit on it when she needed to go. Within a day or two, she was fully trained. She knew what to do and she knew that she would pee on herself if she didn't get there. Very effective training method for us."

heaven help me replied: "I have an e-book on potty training in 3 days. I used it on my (at the time) 2 and 3 yr olds. It is very frustrating the first day, but the 2nd day on were well worth it. Email"

cindy m replied: "When I was facing potty training with my daughter who is now 4, I wanted so bad for her to just give up the diapers and go on her own. I would stay in the house for hours at a time letting her wear pretty princess underwear, got a princess potty, even got princess toliet paper..lol..but everyone kept telling me that when shes ready she will do it. A week after she turned 3 years old, she looked at my mother-in-law and said I dont want diapers anymore. From that day on she only had one accident!!! So Im giving you advice everyone else did..lol..let her go when shes ready..its the only way that you know it would work because o f there determination!! BEST OF LUCK SWEETIE!!**"

in 1 year how much do diapers n formula/food cost for the baby? thanks--

Carrie L replied: "LOTS!! lol I live in Canada and buy Teddy's Choice diapers which are around $26 and lasts maybe almost 2 weeks... and the formula I buy is 26.99 which lasts about 5 days or so. It definitly all adds up. If you can't afford the costs, please don't have a baby. Too many people don't realize how hard it is... but is is extremely hard if you don't have a good job or the support."

Olivia's Mommy <3 replied: "Tons! I breastfeed my daughter so I haven't spent a penny on formula (and don't plan to!) As for diapers, I get mine at Sam's Club for $39 (296 count) and they last us a month or so. (after sending some to the sitter as well) Wipes I also get there, 790 count for $10. They last forever! So I'd say around $500 for me."

pbrent128422 replied: "I agree i pay about the same except i use pampers which are 17.99 for 60 diapers which last about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks and same with the formula 26.99 about every 5 -6 days and wipes you go through alot of thoes and the clothes are expensive too !! they grow sooo fasy its crazy and lots more that u dont think about so i agree you need to have a good job!"

Baby Jace is here! Born Nov21st replied: "The formula I buy is about 7$ a day times 365 days in a year = $2,555 side note: there is cheaper formula, this is the pre-made stuff that does not require mixing Diapers are about $10 a box (again, there are cheaper diapers) They last about 2 weeks on average (give or take, the figure could be more or less pending) SO that's $20 bucks a month times 12 months = $240 Grand total- $2795 Good luck"

hina replied: "baby jaces mama ??? where do u buy these 10 dollars diapers from? i but a box for $40 and it lasts only 15 days??"

Uh_Leesh_Uh replied: "Well, I can give you the answer on diapers. My son goes through about a pack a week. We use Luvs because they work the best for him, which are $8 a pack. So I would say approximately $416 in a year. He is breastfed so that is free....and I plan to make homemade baby food so it will be cheaper."

Busy Mommy of 2 (Expecting #3) replied: "Formula: I used Good Start with my second child who is now 16 months and it cost me about $18.00/can. 1/2 can per week =$108.00 for first 3 months 1 can per week=$ 216.0 for 3-6 months 1 1/2 can per week =$324.00 for 6-9 months 2 cans per week =$144.00 for 9-10 months 1 can per week=$72.00 for 10-11 months 1/4-1/2 can per week= $27.00 for 11-12 months Total: $891.00 for 1 year of formula Keep in mind Good Start is a mid-priced formula. They range from $12.00 to $50.00 (or more) per can. I never used jarred baby food as my daughter hated it so we just puree what we had for dinner and fed it to her so there was no additional cost to that! Cereal is cheap about $1.50 per box and it usually last 3-4 weeks. My children were only on cereal for about 2 months before moving on to other foods. Diapers: I use Luvs at $8.00/pack I use about 1 pack per week no matter the age/size. $416.00 for 1 year of diapers Again Luvs is a mid-priced brand. They range from $4.00-$15.00 for a regular size package of diapers. If you buy supersize packages you can save money!"

Treasure Has One, Brewing 2nd. replied: "Formula, we spend about $1,300.00 Diapers about $500.00 Food, we make our own."

jayel-mommy replied: "My monthly budget pampers - $145.00 (for 120, usually lasts a month) nestum x2- $66.00 (2 tins last for the month) juice - $40 (for a case of 24 which lasts 2 weeks then she drinks pack juice after that) Wipes - $100.00 (a box of 480) She drinks full cream milk which my dad gets for free. Don't forget money for doc visits, medication, clothes, shoes, toys and essentials (cream, shampoo etc)"

What is that absorbent stuff inside disposable diapers? I accidentally threw a[n unused] disposable diaper in with my laundry tonight, and it exploded everywhere, leaving little clear gelatinous globules covering my laundry, my washing machine, and my hands. Just what is this stuff inside diapers, anyway? And do I have to rinse the globules out of everything before I re-wash it? Is this stuff somehow toxic, and are we all going to die!?? (kidding on that one)

jamesnjenifer replied: "It's gel like you've now seen consider it being similar but not the same as jello."

TY replied: "That happened with me one time, but only with a super absorbant pantiliner. But the pantiliner didn't explode, I just noticed it was all squishy so I opened it. It's basically unflavored jello, and it's non-toxic, and I would think the best way to get it out would be to re-wash everything in hot water, since hot water dissolves jello."

SweetPea replied: "I looked it up for you and I learned a lot about diapers too, lol, and even who wears them, besides babies. Anyways, here is what it's called (usually, some are different): "Hydrogel" (See below: They ARE water soluble, which does mean they will dissolve in water.) Hydrogel is a network of polymer chains that are water-soluble, sometimes found as a colloidal gel in which water is the dispersion medium. Hydrogels are superabsorbent (they can contain over 99% water) natural or synthetic polymers. Hydrogels possess also a degree of flexibility very similar to natural tissue, due to their significant water content. Common uses for hydrogel are: In disposable diapers where they "capture" urine, or in sanitary towels Contact lenses (silicone hydrogels, polyacrylamides) medical electrodes using hydrogels composed of cross linked polymers (polyethylene oxide, polyAMPS and polyvinylpyrrolidone) Other, less common uses include: Breast implants Granules for holding soil moisture in arid areas Dressings for healing of burn or other hard-to-heal wounds reservoirs in topical drug delivery; particularly ionic drugs, delivered by iontophoresis (see ion exchange resin) Common ingredients are eg. polyvinyl alcohol, sodium polyacrylate, acrylate polymers and copolymers with an abundance of hydrophilic groups. ...and yes, I noticed the one about the breast implants, but I don't advise saving them up for that, lol... "

Peter 4 replied: "It's a polymer...It is also used in plant containers from the nursery to help plants stay moist after watering them. It is a hydrogel. Try rinsing the blobs out in the bathtub prior to throwing everything back in the washing machine again. They do not disolve."

need some help. question about length of time babies are in different sizes of diapers? doing my registery. for example for diapers. N-last 2 weeks? 1-last ?? 2-??? 3-??? 4-??? im trying to figure out how many diapers for the babys age to put on my registry. i explained it the best i could. sorry if i wasn't clear enough. but thank you! (: 3 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer.

Nayeli's Mommy replied: "Best advice I can give you...don't put any. You need to test out different diapers before settling, and even then one size in one brand may work and the next size up may not. If you MUST put diapers on your registry ask that the people purchasing them give you a gift receipt with them."

OLiVeRs MoMmY replied: "Every baby is different. The smaller the size, the more diapers there are in the box. ALso depends on the brand, some are cheaper than others so if you get a cheap brand than you are most likely to use more diapers. Anywho Newborn I think I used about 2 boxes and that was it. I know it has over 100 in the box and well newborns dont stay newborns for long at all. Size 1, I would get about 2-3, size 2 about 3-4 boxes, size 3 about 4-5 boxes, size 4 about 4-5 boxes, size 5 about 4-5 boxes and well size 6, i have so far used about 7 since I have not put him in pullups yet. Dont forget, if you are using Huggies, there are 2 different types of huggies diapers and 1 of them has more than the other. Hope I helped!!"

bebe103 replied: "Every baby is different. It also depends on how much your baby weighs at birth. I worked in a daycare center for 2 years, some babies were in a size 4 or 5 by the time they were 1, but I also knew 2 year olds who could still wear a size 3. Be careful when registering for diapers, babies can be allergic to certain brands. I wouldn't worry to much about the number of boxes to register for, if you have an extra box of size 1, some stores will exchange them for the correct size without a receipt."

Shelby replied: "Diapers are a toughy because you don't know how big your baby will be. My LO was 6.1 when she was born and stayed in NB for 3-4 weeks but my niece was 8.5 when she was born and was only small enough to fit in to NB for one pack! So just generalize that diapers are always appreciated and take whatever people give you. That way you will get all different sizes and types and see what kind works for you"

impala400sb replied: "i used 2 box of NB pampers for our daughter few number 1s and now shes been in nymber 2's for about 4 or so months now we never really made it our of number 3's with our oldest daughter"

how many poopy diapers should a 3 week old have n 1 day? my baby was breast feeding i had 2 switch him 2 formula he was pooping alot then since ive switched him a couple of days ago hes only pooped 1 time a day i donno if thats normal or what????

I'm weird, ugly, and cute! replied: "as many as it takes"

Pink. replied: "4?"

DinoisCoolio replied: "like 20"

Ryan replied: "I'm sure a sh** ton"

LJSF replied: "None, if you are feeding him properly. Oh. wait. what?"

Katie replied: "It depends on how much he is fed. The switch could have made him constipated , but I am not a doctor, so I couldn't give you any real advice."

Cookie C replied: "When my cousins kid was born they toilet trained it as soon as he was born eventhough their last kid died because he fell into the loo"

Clare replied: "24. They soil their diapers ever hour."

Jonny S replied: "If you're concerned about ANYTHING, contact a doctor to be safe. It's better safe than sorry, especially with something so small and fragile."

Mike P replied: "This calls for the "Poop Doctor" and he isn't home right now."

Mike Z replied: "i asked my mother and she said 5-7 poopy diapers a 3 week per day"

miguel replied: "That is not normal. A baby at that age should poop way more than that. It may sound bad, but you want your baby to poop as much as possible. This would tell you that it is eating well. What can i say raising a baby is EXPENSIVE. Take good care of that baby and have a wonderful day."

Nancy replied: "Breast fed infants generally poop about 10-12 times a day - they eat nearly every 2-3 hours... It has been a very long time for me to recall for certain, but formula changes the dynamics a little - I think it is 6=7 loads a day - Best to check this out with your pediatrician.... 1 load a day sounds very low to me, and may be setting your child up for constipation; consider that there is a change when you switched from breast feeding to bottle - that can cause a disturbance..."

Tanno replied: "when my baby was on formula she used to poo6-7 days but now when i am breastfeeding she is pooping once and my doctor said its normal"

Del Boy replied: "As many as he needs. Im no expert but doesnt breast milk act as a natural laxative. Anyway he'll let you know if he's not happy with the daily grand total eventually."

Carolina V replied: "If the formula you switched him to has iron that will cause him to become constipated more than breast-milk. If you changed the baby to formula to save on diapers, breast milk is the best and formula is good, but does not have all the antibodies against getting sick that breastfeeding milk has. You might have to give him breast milk if you did not dry up yet to get him regular again. You are giving up on breastfeeding when you probably were already bonding with the baby and had him or her used to mothers milk, but again, I don't know if you work and cannot keep up the breastfeeding. Try switching to no iron if he gets too constipated. I wish you the best for the baby and for you too."

Cali (Brayden's Mommy) replied: "Formula can do that. My son could go 2 or 3 days without a bowel movement and the doctor said that was normal."

The cat did it. replied: "My son is breast fed and he was going days without pooping at that age. I don't know whose kid poops several times a day... there is something wrong if they are. Now, they should be wetting a diaper every two hours, but pooping... you don't have to worry until day 5. When I took my son in because it had been 2 days the doc said that their bodies are using all the nutrition that you are giving them to build their lil bodies so there is not that much waste. Generally a formula fed baby will poo more often because there is more waste in formula than breast milk. My older two were formula fed and would poop about once a day so when my third went two without going I took him in. The doc said that if we hit day five to give him a call but it was totally normal. So, call your doc to be sure, you probably wont be asked to bring him in they will tell you your son is fine. And be happy now because as they get older those poopy diapers get more fun, lol. Hope this helped!!! Edit: someone else mentioned the iron in the formula... totally true. One of my sons had a horrid time with the iron in formula to the point that his poo was so hard it would cut him on the way out and he went into the ER several times for it. Unfortunately they no longer make low iron formulas. But, that is totally a possiblility that he is constipated from the iron in the formula."
