My tachometer speedometer and fuel gauge stopped working in my 94 civic. Which fuse controls them? My tachometer speedometer and fuel gauge stopped working in my 94 civic hatchback. I'm pretty sure that I blew a fuse, but can't find out which fuse it is. Which fuse controls them? thank you. I know where the fuse boxes are located, but I just don't know which specific fuse i should replace for my gauges to work again.

Michael replied: "i have had this issue working in the industry and the instrument cluster has issues with failure. the fuse panel on the drivers kick panel or the one under the hood behind the pass side strut tower are the only fuse locations. I would replace the insrument cluster, that is 90% of the causes I have seen"

I have a 98 Honda Civic LX and my Tachometer, Speedometer, Fuel Gauge, and Temperature gauge does not work.? When I turn my car on the Tachometer doesn't move at all, and when im driving the Speedometer stays at zero and dont move. Also the Fuel gauge and Temperature gauge will not work either. My lights come on in the instrument panel and both my Turn Signals work fine. The Radio and A/C Heater works fine as well. What is the problem with this issue

0wn3d4life replied: "bring it to a mechanic, htats all i can say."

Steve110 replied: "Check the connection between the instrument panel and the computer. All the sensors go to the computer for processing and from there the signal is sent to the instrument panel. If the connection looks ok, you are going to need to find the pin-out and descriptions for each of the signals. Try Autozone's program call Alldata. Search the internet for the exact web address. Good luck"

DJ-MAN replied: "more than likely you have a fuss blown or a shorted wire to the fuse panel. some vehicles have two fuse blocks so if you have a vehicle manuel with this car, refer to it about where the fuse are and also which fuse controls the Instruments. you may also look on the cover of the fuse block if it has one. you may try to exchange places with some of the fuse to see if it will then work. IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO REPLACE THE FUSE FROM WHERE YOU GOT THEM AND BE SURE THEY ARE THE RIGHT AMPERAGE THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE THERE. hope this helps. the dj man said that"

mercury outboard tachometer and speedometer not working? my boat has a 1995 mercury 90HP outboard. The speedometer has always worked until this year and the tachometer has never worked. Since they are not necessities I am not going to fix them unless i can fix them on my own. Can anyone get me going in the right direction on what to check or where to start. Thank you in advance.

Josh M replied: "The speedometer has a flexible tube on the back that is connected to the motor on the other end. It is either cut, perforated or disconnected. The tach problem can be caused by a bad sending unit on the motor, bad wiring or connections, or the tach itself could be shot."

jtexas replied: "Tach not working is a symptom of blown rectifier - but if the battery is charging then you know that's not the problem. Try this: use a jumper wire to apply 12V directly from the battery to the IGN terminal, the needle should go to zero. If it doesn't, then use another jumper to connect battery (-) to GND. If it still doesn't zero out, the tach is bad. If you get it to zero connecting directly like this, you have a loose wire somewhere probably under the helm. IGN is typically connected to a purple wire, GND to black, SND to gray (sometimes yellow), and LT to blue. If you can get the tach to zero out with the key "on", but it still doesn't register RPMs with the engine running, measure the voltage on the wire connected to SND with the engine running, you need at least 4 volts AC. Good voltage on the SND wire but no RPM's, you have a bad tach. Bad voltage on SND, it's a wiring fault, or else the rectifier is bad (but as mentioned, a bad rectifier won't charge the battery). I consider my tachometer a necessity - it's an important troubleshooting tool, and often the first clue that the motor needs attention."

steplift20 replied: "i was going to tell you but jtexas hit it right on the money listen to him hes got you covered but if you cant fix the speedometer dont get a gps there more accurate anyway"

link replied: "There is 2 tiny slots in the lower unit of the motor facing forward just below the ventilation plate. They look like this ," - - " Clean those and your speedometer will work. They get clogged with mud and crap."

Speedometer and tachometer problems on 97 Jetta GLX? My speedometer and tachometer do not work anymore on my Jetta. Those are the only two gauges that have stopped working. Everything else on my car works fine. My mileage is not affected, (i still get about 28 mpg on freeway). V6 engine. Please help, probably gonna end up taking it to a VW dealer, but want to know if there is anything i could try first.

Roy N replied: "have the speedometer cable checked out, sometimes they come loose, sometimes driving the car backward for a couple of feet might do the trick, good luck. Roy"

I have a speedometer and tachometer problem on my 1995 VW Jetta.? The Speedometer and tachometer on my 1995 Volkswagen Jetta don't work. What could be the problem? Can someone recomend me a place where I could fix this electrical problem for less money? Thanks for reading my question

Angel replied: "It could just be the sensors. Good luck!"

William L replied: "calibrate the speedometer and trash the tach."

my speedometer and tachometer doesnt work? my speedometer and tachometer on my 04 chevy cavalier doesnt work the speedometer doesnt move and the tachometer is stuck with the needle facing 6:00. Both would stop working after the car got hot but now it doesnt work at all what could it be.

duce replied: "Faulty wiring or bad fuse"

smokey replied: "i think that both of these gages are electronically operated. contact a dealership."

ucantcme replied: "I CAN ONLY SAY THAT YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES; I WOULD ALSO HAVE SOMEONE CHECK THE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR AND THE GEAR THAT DRIVES THE SENSOR. TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE."

Does anyone know how to restore/reburbish Honda Motorcycle speedometer tachometer gauges? I have a 1973 Honda CB350, and the face of the gauges are starting to fade. Does anyone know how hard it would be to take them apart and rebuild them? Or, better yet, know of a business I could send them to to replace the faces and the glass?

michaelsmaniacal replied: "For instructions on how to dissassemble your guages, check out http:kzrider.com/content/view39/11/ I know they show Kaw guages, but the operation is exactly the same. The other idea is to replace the guages altogether. I just installed a speedo and tach I got from JC Whitney's online catalogue. They're a bit smaller than the stock guages, but hook right up, are illuminated, and work great! Oh yea, they're only like 39.95 US$ each. E-mail me @yahoo.com if you need a pic of them installed."

blastabuelliac replied: "I know that it is hard to take them apart because they are made to not be taken apart. Everything is in there permanently so that the numbers can't be changed. But that doesn't mean that someone hasn't figured out a way to restore them. I tried to find someone on the Internet to answer your question but I've failed."

Dogbettor replied: "In 1973 Honda sold more cb/cl 350 motorcycles than ALL the other motorcycle manufacturers sold motorcycles COMBINED. The CB, CL, and the SL all had the same guages. I don't know about a refinish but replacements are available all over. Call 610-521-6700. Ask for a nice set. Also can fit 72, 74, 75."

Whats the difference between 'speedometer' and 'tachometer'? Why should there be a tachometer in a vehicle? How important is it to the driver?

john carlo replied: "A speedometer measures your speed across the ground. A tachometer (greek?: fast, swift) measures your engines speed in revolutions per minute (RPM). Before the advent of automatic transmissions, one had to manually shift gears and it was important to make the shift from 1st to 2nd, for instance, before the engine reached its "redline" the point at which one could cause catastrophic damage to the engine. Most modern transmissions protect the engine even when in the manual shift mode. So, tachometers aren't quite as important as they used to be and are more eye candy in most autos. Any thing with a standard gearbox requires one. There is obviously a correlation between engine speed and auto speed. Normally, you can go up to about 35-40 in 1st without over revving an engine. To go faster the transmission (either automatically or manually) must go to higher gears to get the top speed out of a car."

Steven V replied: "Seepdometer = how fast you drive Tachometer = meassures flywheel RPMs"

Patrick S replied: "a tach is used to measure the engines revolutions per minute or rpm. you dont really need one unless you have a manual transmission and a clutch. a speedo just tells how fast your going"

vip800nut replied: "speedometer tell you how fast the vehicle is moveing and tachometer tells you how fast the engine is spinning. tachometers are more important for cars that have manual transmissions so you know when to shift."

Larry B replied: "the speedometer measures "ground speed" ex: how fast you're moveing Tachometer measures the revolutions of the engines crank shaft,,as to thier usefullness it varies,,on automatic transmission cars not much u can do there except during close menuvers to help in fine movements and control of speeds(rock climbing) also one could "keep an eye on thier transmission" the engine would rev higher if transmission is slipping,,on my old stick truck when i was really winding out the gears i could tell wen i was close to "over revving" the engine on slick surfaces i could tell earlier wen i was "slipping a tire" Hope this Helps!"

Miagi84 replied: "A tachometer is a guage on how fast the engine is spinning as noted by RPM(Rotation Per Minute). It is important in manual transmissions but I do not see why they are in automatic transmissions as the shifting is done for you. Although, you can tell if your car is not idling right or shifting properly by looking at the tachometer. Speedometer is just referring to how fast the car is traveling. Tachometer and speedometer measures two different variables. There are current motorcycles that do not have a tachometer but I have not seen a car without it."

ANDY replied: "HELLO SPEEDO SHOWS HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING DOWN THE ROAD (MILES PER HOUR) TACHO SHOWS HOW FAST THE ENGINE IS TURNING (REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE) CARS WILL NORMALLY IDLE ABOUT 900 TO 1,000 RPM MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC SO I PRESS DOWN ON ACCELERATOR AND EVERY TIME IT REACHES 2.500 TO 2, 600 RPM IT CHANGES UP A GEAR THIS IS BECAUSE I AM CRUISING. IF I WANT TO GET SOMEWHERE QUICKER I CAN PUSH A SPORT BUTTON AND IT WILL CHANGE GEAR AT 4,000 RPM WITH A MANUAL GEARBOX IT TELLS THE DRIVER WHEN TO CHANGE SO AS NOT TO OVER REV THE CAR AS THIS DAMAGES THE ENGINE"

I accidentally scratched the speedometer/tachometer shield on my 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sports Ed. Can I repair? I'm a 'do-it-yourself' type of person. If I know how to, I'd rather do it myself. But unless I have some instructions to follow, I will have to send it to the dealership and pay so much money for them to replace it. Is there anyone out there who can show me the ropes. Thanks in advance.

Herbie replied: "If its glass and only a shallow scratch you might try toothpaste or metal polish, both of which are gentle abrasives."

ModelAirports on YouTube replied: "You want to repair it just for a scratch? Uh okay well u could take a hammer and just shatter the glass out. Then you could cut a piece of glass in the shape of it if you know how to."

Bunky77 replied: "Well, if u still have the glass, glue them together with glass glue, then wait 24hours for it to dry, then there should be little slots that the glass can fit into, try to push it in, but don't force it to hard, if this doesn't work, you'll have to take it to a dealership"

What do I do with my gauges (speedometer, tachometer) if...? I get an engine swap from a 1999 civic ex coupe (redline 7, 130mph max) to a 1999 civic si coupe (redline 8, 150mph max)? Do I have to get that part completely swapped out too?

bignallday replied: "no..................... NO .......................... no....................NO"

foxbat replied: "why are you asking , common sense just keep it out of the red line unless your fixing to replace engines often. your 7000 tacho is fine ."

ecarcompany replied: "no, shouldn't need to change them."
